The Annual Inter House Sports Meet of Loyola College, Negombo was held on the 19th January 2018 at the College Grounds. Rev. Fr. Bonnie Fernandopulle, Former Rector of St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa and currently the Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Church, Dehiwala, was the Chief Guest at this vibrant occasion. The grand opening ceremony and the closing ceremony attracted the audience. The Western Band display by the Army cadets led by Drum Major Akesh Malshitha, and the spectacular drill display by the students of Grades Six and Seven were the featured items which presented a vivid panorama. The March Past was the culmination of the events and it consisted of squads which represented smart girls and boys from the three houses.
Rev. Fr. Rector highlighted the importance of inculcating the qualities such as team spirit and fair play while competing with each other and the need to respect for the other while in contest. Further he stated, “Accepting victory or defeat with equal magnanimity and grace helps a person face challenges in life with confidence. That is why we encourage every student to take part in at least one sport. It can even be a carom competition where only two fingers move supported by the quick thinking brain.” He highly appreciated the efforts of the participants who lose at heats or at the final event. He emphasized the value of participation, “to win fairly and to lose gracefully.”
Kingsley House secured victory while Antony House was the runners up at the end, after a fair and unbiased competition.
